There are 3 main factors in reduced tire life:

1. Improper inflation (pressure)
2. Faulty alignment
3. Uneven wear patterns

Inflation

The secret to long wear is even tread wear. Improper tire inflation will cause uneven wear caused by uneven contact with the road. Over-inflation is every bit as bad as under-inflation on tire wear. In addition over-inflation can lead to a tire blow-out. Over-inflation will cause centre tread wear. Under-inflation will cause outside edge wear. The manufacturer will print the suggested inflation on the side of the tire. You should check the tire pressure often, usually the lube shop will do this for you when you have your oil changed. Most newer cars have a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).This will alert you if you have a low tire.
